As winter temperatures begin to rear their ugly head, you may be noticing a cold draft in your home. If that happens, your first inclination may be to check the windows, and this is usually a very smart thing to do. However, you may have some difficulty identifying exactly where the draft is coming from – especially if your home has double-pane windows.
Double-pane windows typically include two layers of glass, with a special gas pumped in between the layers. While feeling around for colder temperatures may yield some results, having a professional home inspector use a thermal imaging camera can give much more specific, targeted feedback. That’s because a thermal imaging camera can quickly identify sealant cracks or other issues that can cause the gas between the glass to leak out, along with other potential problems that are causing your double-pane windows to be less efficient than they used to be.
